A Revelation and a Celebration
And so, another product in our creative and practical “Revelation Range” – the items you didn’t know you needed until you needed them – is born! Enter the LYBL Slide which, in our humble opinions, is the one LYBL collectible that you simply have to have. It is, in the words of our Ouma Nelie “‘n absolute wenner” (an absolute winner).
And what is the LYBL Slide? Is it a stand? A desk? A table? A tray? A pedestal? A moving bar… Well, it’s all of that, and more. This minimalistic and multifunctional collectible is perfect in smaller spaces, but is just as impressive in larger rooms. We just love the fact that such a simply designed item can be so versatile, and we especially love that we get to launch this gem as part of our first birthday celebration. Isn’t she beautiful?
We are going with the feminine gender (as in the French “la table”) as it is Women’s Month and our collaboration this month is with the women-owned and run neighbourhood micro-bakery “Two Recovering Broke Girls” (TRBG). The popular bakery was established in 2012 by the Snÿman sisters Juani and Cecilia (our co-founder who you met in December last year). Initially it was ‘just’ a passion and pocket money project, but the two girls made it work (must be in the genes!), crafting the most incredible confectionary and baked delights; building on their customer base; reinvesting in their business; and growing it over time to an extent where they employ part-time baking assistants. Their Instagram page looks like a work of art! And yes, we are family so may be biased but loyal customers don’t lie – and those for whom they lovingly continue to create in their little boutique bakery, should know, as they keep returning occasion after occasion!
Thirteen years later, our two recovering broke girls are no longer youngsters trying to make an extra Rand or two, or learning the ropes of running a small business. They are each successful in their own right, blossoming in their lives and careers, and we are incredibly proud of them both.
There is also a wonderful sense of nostalgia around the very fact that Juani (now an engineer) who, above all else, loved being in the kitchen during her childhood, gets to realise her dream of being a pastry chef as a “side hustle”, while pursuing another perhaps more stable “design and build” passion.
We’re grateful that she continues to create in the kitchen, and that TRBG found the time to bake us our first year Celebration Cake – for our photoshoot (and of course for our tummies too). Our cakes were as delicious as they look, and looked as perfect as we had hoped they would perched on our LYBL Slide.
Boutique shopping does come with a price tag, but what Juani, Cecilia and so many of our past and future collaborators have proven is that people are prepared to pay for high-end quality products (consumable or other), where no short cuts are taken in delivering the very best one is able to create. We are grateful that they have stayed the course, weathered the test of time, and that thirteen years later their business still fulfils the “passion and pocket money” purpose.
We hope and trust that we will also enjoy such a long and fruitful journey with our precious little start up. And that you too may find as much joy and satisfaction in your purchases from our small but dynamic little boutique, assured that your purchases, like the LYBL Slide, our wall racks and our armrest tray, are built to last many lifetimes.
And, on that note we would like to wish everyone a beautiful Women’s Month – may you find the time in between juggling career and family, to spend a little quality time for and on yourself. And may you enjoy a delicious piece of cake (TRBG delivers) while deciding what wood you’ll be ordering the must-have LYBL Slide in.
