A classy LYBL LogLift for the BM anyone
When we started LYBL last year we definitely didn’t think that a female-owned online boutique would be writing a blog about THE BRAAI – a truly quintessential, often male-dominated (enter the Braai Meester, or BM) South African institution. However, we feel that our cumulative mom-daughter-girlfriend-fiancé-wife experience, gained through years of weekend and holiday exposure, as well as of course our keen intellect and powers of observation, positions us quite comfortably to add some value to the topic.
We would start with the fact that one of our greatest take-aways has been that it is often best to leave “it” to the experts… which is one of the reasons that this month’s collaboration is with the truly aspirational South African, Cape Town based “Donkey Long Tong” – a brand that oozes nostalgia, heritage, adventure and storytelling. If you have a look at their website here, you will see that these guys know a thing or three about cooking over fire. We are not sure how many they have lit (although we are sure the number is significant), or how many stories they have told across the flames… but goodness, what we would have given to be an unnoticed species of wild life listening in on the latest adventure...
Their artisan-made fire and braai tools are, as they put it on their website “built to last” – the kind of product right after our own hearts. And! Imagine how excited we got when we heard that they were: "Built for generations. Even your great-grandkids can master the flames with these tools." Just perfect! Perhaps what may previously have been considered an unconventional inheritance has become an incredible, sustainable heirloom to be passed down through the generations. We want a Donkey Long Tong braai tool. Scratch that. We want two! One for Oom Jan, and one for he who remains unnamed, but will soon be a member of our family too.
So yes, it is Heritage Day soon, which is why of course we're on the topic of the braai, and as with every one of our monthly collabs, another product in our creative and practical "Revelation Range" - the items you didn't know you needed until you needed them - is born! Our thought process was that there is a bag for practically everything these days (check out the Jack Sack), so why not a classy built-for-purpose sling bag to store or transport your fire wood in? And while we are at it, we’ll build a stand too!
Enter the LYBL LogLift – a hand-crafted sturdy, and versatile bag designed to provide a clean way to carry or keep your wood and move it from pile to fire… injury free. Use it as it’s meant to be used and there’ll be no splinters, no sore back, no dust or debris. No foraging in the dusty dry wood pile behind the shed or ripping open the unsightly last-minute garage purchased plastic bag in a rush. It’s an elegant and organised bag that looks great brimming with braai wood and draped over LYBL’s free-standing LYBL Log Porter – an elegant purpose-built stand that looks good next to your fire place, on your patio, in your firepit. And you can easily unhook the LogLift, secure the logs and pop it in the boot just before you leave for your Heritage Day get together.
It's easy to clean; easy to store; and easy on the eye. Now all you need to do is decide which colour and version to get (there are five variations) for that special braai-mad man in your life. Oh, and if you’re wondering what wood is best for this year’s fire, then Donkey Long Tong has got you covered on that front too. Is there anything these guys haven’t thought of?
And to close… in the words of Donkey Long Tong: “Let’s start the fire!” Happy Heritage Month everyone! And don’t forget to keep your hubby, or soon to-be… happy with proper manly gifts this year. You know where to find them all now, but just in case you need a reminder, head over here to have another look in our shop window!
This LYBL LogLift makes a beautiful and thoughtful housewarming gift, and is the perfect present for the man who has most things. It is sure to be a talking point around every fire, and at every braai. Arrive with one slung over your shoulder, and get the conversation going...
